Basque Country Spain

Arotza Woodworks, founded by Peter Dayton in 2021, specializes in crafting custom heirloom furniture from solid, natural wood using traditional joinery techniques learned during his time as a shipwright in the Basque Country of Spain.

Peter's diverse background encompasses experience in commercial construction and culinary arts, highlighted by his involvement in prestigious projects like The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, FL, and the renowned Michelin-starred Arzak restaurant in San Sebastian, Spain. His passion for woodworking was ignited during his time in the Basque Country, where he honed his carpentry skills alongside master ship builders, learning about wood characteristics, joinery, and traditional hand tools.

When Peter returned to the US in 2021, he established Arotza Woodworks, dedicated to creating durable, timeless pieces of furniture with a focus on clean lines and proper proportioning. Using a combination of machinery and vintage hand tools, Peter prioritizes hand-cut joinery and meticulously selects lumber for each project in his heirloom designs.

The designs resist trends for lasting appeal, and Peter's commitment to continuous learning is reflected in his work. His shop is in the Salt Creek Marine District of St Petersburg, FL, and creates pieces in collaboration with individuals, interior designers, restaurants, and hotels among others. He is dedicated to crafting heirloom furniture that will endure for generations.
